Dito Montiel directs this touching drama starring Robin Williams in
his final performance as Nolan Mack, a married middle-class bank
clerk in his 60s who enjoys living his life through routines. On a
whim one evening, Nolan travels to a different part of town and
meets gay prostitute Leo (Roberto Aguire) which causes him to
question his sexuality. As a result of this awakening, Nolan
reflects on the course of his rather conventional life and
contemplates what he wishes for his life now, all the while wrought
with guilt and regret over his marriage. The cast also includes
Kathy Baker and Bob Odenkirk.
Jonathon White ("Milk") survives youth in 70s-era Queens to become
a post-911 NYPD officer and father until secrets from his past
threaten to destroy everything he holds dear. Equal parts
metafiction, mystery and poetry, The Story of Milk is the story of
street code and the fragile bonds of friendship. The Story of Milk
inspired major motion picture The Son of No One, starring Channing
Tatum, Tracy Morgan, Katie Holmes, Ray Liotta, Juliette Binoche and
Al Pacino.
Orlandito "Dito" Montiel, son of Orlando, a Nicaraguan immigrant,
and an Irish mother, grew wild in the streets of Astoria, Queens,
pulling pranks for Greek and Italian gangsters and confessing at
the church of the Immaculate Conception, gobbling hits of purple
mescaline and Old English, sneaking into Times Square whore
houses--"Kids from nowhere going nowhere." This is the
quintessentially American story of a young man's hunger for
experience, his dawning awareness of the bigger world across the
bridge, and of the loyalties that bind him to a violent past and to
the flawed and desperate saints that have guided him: Dito's
father, Antonio "our insane warrior hero," Bob Semen, Frank the dog
walker, Jimmy Mullen, Cherry Vanilla, Ginsberg and all the others,
the drunks, coke-heads, junkies, the insaniacs like Santos Antonios
who said, "Now Dito remember, in life you gotta be crazy."
